Eltern vor Ort (Parents on the spot)

City: Hamburg (Germany)
Territorial scope: neighbourhood/district/borough
Targets: Parents with immigrant background and teachers
Policy sector: Education
Implementing organization: KWB Koordinierungsstelle Weiterbildung und Beschäftigung e. V.
Main Partners: BQM, local schools, school and administrative authorities at neighbourhood, Bezirk (district) level, and city level.
Objectives: Against a broader concern over how students of immigrant background manage the transition from school to employment, the project aims to work with parents in order to enhance their understanding of the schooling process and break down barriers between parents and school, thus eventually enabling the parents to be more actively involved in the schooling of their children.
Activities: The project is carried out with parents and  schools in five Hamburg neighbourhoods. Key to the project is the training of parents with immigrant background as moderators, providing them with a detailed understanding of schooling in Germany. These parents are in turn encouraged to become ‘multipliers’ by actively engaging with other parents in order to share their knowledge of the schooling process.
